Demographics Of Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda are located along the outer edge of the Leeward islands in the Caribbean Sea. Antigua, the larger of the two main islands, is 108 sq mi (280 sq km). The island dependencies of Redonda (an uninhabited rocky islet) and Barbuda (a coral island formerly known as Dulcina) are 0.5 sq mi (1.30 sq km) and 62 sq mi (161 sq km), respectively. The territory consists of three islands, of which, one is a small uninhabited rocky outcrop called Redonda. Of the two main islands


  1. Antigua is composed of volcanic rock, coral and limestone. It has inlets and bays with rolling hills vegetated with flowering trees while
  2. Barbuda is a flat coral island with a large lagoon on the west side of the island and has miles of beaches with pink and white sands. Major Cities (pop. est.); St. John's 22,000 (1991). Land Use; forested 11%, pastures 9%, agricultural-cultivated 18%, other 62% (1993).

The coat of arms of Antigua and Barbuda was designed in 1966 by Gordon Christopher. It was officially introduced on 16 February, 1967. The symbolism of the arms is more complex than that found on the Flag of Antigua and Barbuda, but many elements are similar.
