There are hotels, resorts and apartments all round the island and more are being built all the time. We have not space to mention them all, this is a selection. The greatest concentration of developments is in the area around St John’s, along the coast to the west and also to the north in a clockwise direction to the airport. A second cluster of places to stay is around English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour in the southeast of the island. Many may be closed Sep-Oct in preparation for the winter season. Full lists of hotels, apartments, villas and guesthouses should be available from the tourist office at the airport, although it is not always easy to get hold of. The tourist office will book you a hotel room on arrival if you have not already done so. There are lots of self-catering apartments available all round the island but a common complaint is that sufficient provisions are not available locally and you have to go into St John’s for shopping. Camping is illegal.
