An ‘all class’ competition, it draws novices and professional yachtsmen alike, from all over the world. One of the top five Regatta's world wide and the biggest in the Caribbean, it's a high profile event with a laid back vibe!
In 1996, more than 200 boats competed in Race Week. Competitors included huge 70-foot maxi-yachts, hot one design boats like Melges and J boats, live-aboard cruisers and a growing fleet of chartered bareboats that allow wider numbers of sailors to participate.
Yachters from around the globe participate in races between 16 and 28 miles long, boasting sponsors such as Rolex, American Express and American National Bank. Year after year this prestigous sailing regatta continues to attract world class yachts and yachtsmen to race in the beautiful waters of Antigua. Now the largest warm-water sailboat race in the world, Antigua Race Week began modestly in 1967 when 14 local charter boats got together to relax at the end of the winter season after the last customers departed. Once again, sailing equipment manufacturers will be showing that they understand the need to test and innovate using racing.
