Golf was invented in Scotland and played on sandy seaside windswept dunes. Golf in Aruba is played on desert landscapes on sandy seaside windswept shores. Golf is a game in which you drive hard to get to a green and then wind up in a hole.

The challenge is here for all golfers regardless of experience or talent. Aruba's constant trade winds cool the blazing sun, but add to the spice of the game. The views from the courses are often dramatic: crashing sea or calm lagoons; cacti, giant boulders, iguanas sunbathing and wild donkeys dining; desert and indigenous flora.
The 9-hole Aruba Golf Club, built more than 65 years ago for the Esso/Lago Oil Refinery employees, east of San Nicolas, took into consideration the elements of the weather and created oiled sand greens along its sand traps and water hazards. The island's goats are free to roam and often appear for munching on the course.
In 1995 the 18-hole, par 71, Tierra del Sol Golf Course opened near the lighthouse, designed to fit in with the natural landscape and with the sea on two sides. A community of homes and villas has also been designed to blend in with the surrounding vegetation with a full-service clubhouse, swimming pool, golf practice range and tennis and fitness complex. It took over 30 years to get the golf course built because of difficulties with the barren landscape and the lack of water. Many hotels are signing up for preferential rates for their guests, otherwise contact Tierra del Sol on T860978, F860671. There is a nine-hole golf course with oiled sand greens and goats near San Nicolas, golf clubs for rent US$6, green fee US$10 for 18 holes, US$7.50 for nine holes, T842006, Saturday and Sunday members only, open daily 0800-1700. At the Holiday Inn is an 18-hole mini-golf course. A mini golf course called Adventure Golf has been built opposite La Cabana, close to Bubali, in a nice garden.
The PGA-approved championship 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones III at Tierra del Sol Resort and Country Club, overlooking the commanding northwest coast and the California Lighthouse. There is a protected marshland teeming with wildlife, a clubhouse and pro shop, lounge and restaurant amenities along with putting greens, chipping and practice areas as well as a variety of tees and approach angles for golfers of all abilities. De Palm Tours, Pelican Adventures, Wix Tours, Watapana Tours, Iglu Tropical also offer Tierra del Sol Golf Course.
The Links at Divi Aruba is a 9-hole course and training facility within the Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort in the low-rise resort area of Aruba. This 65 acres golf course is just steps away from Druif Beach. The quality of its landscape is maintained by its own soil and vegetation eco-system and supports a sea and golf course view lounge, club house and pro shop. All courses are open to the public although preferred tee times are provided to members. Other golf resources in Aruba: http://www.aruba-golf.com
