Beef Island

This island was famed as a hunting ground for beef cattle during the buccaneering days. The island is linked to Tortola by the Queen Elizabeth bridge. The main airport of the BVI is here. (Taxi to Road Town, US$15.) Long Bay beach is on the north shore. Also Trellis Bay which has an excellent harbour and bars.


The Last Resort, run by Englishman Tony Snell, based on Bellamy Cay, provides a lavish buffet menu plus one-man show cabaret, bar open all day, happy hour 1700-1900, dinner 1930, cabaret 2130, ferry service available, reservations required, T4952520 or channel 16. Also Boardsailing BVI, the Conch Shell Point Restaurant (T4952285, VHF Ch 16) and a painting and jewellery shop. LL-A Beef Island Guest House has four rooms on the beach, PO Box 494, East End, T4952303, F4951611, food available at its De Loose Mongoose Bar, VHF Ch 16, 0800-1600, 1800-2100, mostly burgers and sandwiche.
