Accommodation - Les Saintes

Terre-de-Haut

LL-A Bois Joli, reached by 10- minute boat ride or 5-minute scooter ride from town, at the west end of the island on hillside, T995038, F995505, T800-3222223 in USA, gorgeous setting, hotel van transport to town or airport, 21 rooms, 8 bungalows, MAP, most have a/c, phones, pool, bar, restaurant, 2 beaches, watersports.

AL Kanaoa, Anse Marie, T995136, F995504, T800-3222223 in USA, a/c, but rather basic, fair restaurant used by tour groups, beautiful waterfront setting 10 minutes walk from landing jetty, very quiet. B La Saintoise, T995250, in town. Auberge Les Petits Saints aux Anacardiers, La Savanne, T995099, F995451, T800-3222223 in USA. Former mayor’s house overlooking town and bay, furnished with French antiques, attractive, intimate, clean, pool, sauna, art gallery, good restaurant, recommended. B Jeanne d’Arc, T995041, at Fond de Curé village on south coast, good, all with 10 rooms.

Terre-de-Bas

There is one hotel, Le Poisson Volant, 9 rooms, T998147. On both Terre-de-Haut and Terre-de-Bas there are rooms and houses to rent; tourist office has list of phone numbers. Recommended are Mme Bonbon, T905052, on the road to the airfield, who has several rooms; Mme Bernadette Cassin, T995422, clean studio under her house on road to cemetery, cheaper without kitchen facilities, if she is full she has family and friends who offer rooms; and Mme Maisonneuve, T995338, on the same road as the Mairie. Reservations are generally recommended in peak season, especially Christmas and New Year. The Mairie and the Gendarmerie are reported as very unhelpful regarding accommodation and will not tell you where the hotels are situated. The telephone at the jetty only takes phone cards. Not good for first impressions but otherwise idyllic. There is a shortage of water on the island.
