Getting There

Air

  • From Europe: The only direct scheduled services are with BWIA, Virgin Atlantic or British Airways from London, Condor from Frankfurt and Air Liberté from Paris. Flights from Europe usually come via Antigua or Barbados.
  • From North America: BWIA has flights, via Barbados from New York, and Miami. Air Jamaica from New York, other cities planned.
  • From Canada: Air Canada flies from Toronto.
  • From Caribbean: There are also excellent connections from Antigua (LIAT), Barbados (LIAT, Helenair, Air Jamaica and British Airways), Dominica (LIAT, Helenair), Grenada (LIAT, Helenair), Guadeloupe (LIAT), Montego Bay and Kingston (Air Jamaica), Martinique (LIAT, Air Guadeloupe), San Juan (LIAT, American Eagle), Tortola, BVI (LIAT); St Maarten (LIAT), St Vincent (LIAT, Helenair), Trinidad and Tobago (BWIA, Helenair, LIAT).

Sea

Windward Lines Ltd operate a weekly passenger and cargo ferry service linking Venezuela (Güiria or Pampatar, Margarita), Trinidad, St Vincent, Barbados and St Lucia, arriving St Lucia 0800 Saturday, departing Sunday around 1900, see page 25. Express Des Iles, does a day-trip (shopping trip) to Martinique on Saturday, EC$172 round trip, leaving 0700, arriving Fort-de-France 0820, return 1700 arrive 1820, tax included, reservations Cox & Co Ltd, William Peter Boulevard, T4522211/3, F4531868, or travel agents. Continues to Guadeloupe, Les Saintes and Dominica. Many cruise lines call. There is a US$10 per person tax on cruise ship passengers.

Ports of Entry: (Own flag) Rodney Bay (Customs open 0800-1800 but overtime charges from 1600), Marigot, Castries, Soufrière (clear in at police station) and Vieux Fort. Pratique EC$10 up to 100 tons. Clearance EC$5 for under 40 ft, EC$15 for over 40 ft. Navigational aids EC$15. EC$25 for a 24-hour permit to visit the Pitons at Soufrière. Charter boats pay additional fees. Permission is granted to stay up to two months, extensions cost extra.

Anchorages: There are anchorages at Rodney Bay, Castries, Marigot Bay (managed by Moorings), Soufrière (see page 784) and Vieux Fort. Marinas at Rodney Bay, Marigot and Castries Yacht Centre.
