Customs Formalities:

Visitors may bring in duty free for their own use one carton of cigarettes or cigars, one bottle of liquor or wine and some perfume. The importation of all firearms, including those charged with compressed air, without prior approval in writing from the Commissioner of Police, is strictly forbidden. Spear guns, Hawaiian slings, controlled drugs and pornography are also illegal.
Returning residents may bring in $200 worth of merchandise per person duty free. A duty of 10% to 30% is charged on most imported goods and forms the major source of government revenue.

Transportation:

A valid driver's license from a visitor's normal place of residence is suitable when renting vehicles. A government tax of U.S. $10 is levied on all hired cars and U.S. $5 on motor scooter rentals. (Insurance is extra.) Driving is on the left-hand side of the road. Taxis are abundant throughout the Islands. Bicycle rentals are also available.

Telecommunications:

Cable & Wireless Ltd. operates state-of-the-art domestic and international
telecommunications services on a totally digital network. Worldwide direct dialing, call forwarding/waiting, telex, facsimile, toll-free 1-800, cellular and Internet services are available. Phone cards are required in phone booths.

Electricity:

120/240 volts, 60 Hz, suitable for all U.S. appliances.

Courier Service:

Delivery service is provided by FedEx, with offices on Providenciales and Grand Turk. Service is also provided by DHL. UPS services are limited to incoming-only package delivery.

Departure Tax:

U.S. $15. No departure tax is levied on children under 12 years of age.

Marriage:

Must be present in the Turks & Caicos Islands for at least forty-eight hours prior to making this application. Must have parents' consent if under the age of 21. What do I need to get there?

Got Everything?
We recommend that if you are traveling to the Turks & Caicos Islands that you make sure you have everything that you need. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a bathing suit are a must, shorts and T-shirts seem to be islands uniform, for golfers you’ll need a collared shirt, and for that romantic evening at one of the 5-star restaurants, semi-casual attire is usually adequate.

Toiletries?
If you are staying in a hotel, do not worry about beach towels most hotels offer clean towels everyday provided you bring them back. Bring your favorite shampoo, conditioner, shaving products, and bathroom necessities. There are several convenient and grocery store but brands are limited.

Medical Needs?
If you are taking any medication, or require any medical assistance, please contact your doctor to make sure that your travels to the Turks & Caicos will be enjoyable. The island of Providenciales has a full pharmacy and very qualified medical staff that can assist if their are ever any problems. There is also a decompression chamber available for divers. Grand Turk also has a full service hospital and pharmacy available. In case of any major medical emergency, there is a helicopter available for a short ride to nearby hospitals and to Miami.

Customs and Immigration?
Visitors from North America may enter with a passport or a birth certificate and ID bearing a photograph. A valid onward or return ticket is also a prerequisite.

Departure Tax?
Don't forget that to leave the islands, you are required to pay a $15 dollar departure tax for each person boarding the plane including children.
