Food & Drink
Good, moderate to expensive meals in restaurants and bars are good quality. Watch out for specials with no posted prices. The local beer is Caya, Pilsner or West Indies Pale Ale, in bottles or draft. Wine by the glass is US$5. With over 50 restaurants and delis on Provo alone, prices are variable but local restaurants with native cuisine are reasonable. Many restaurants feature vegetarian meals and low fat cooking. All food is imported (except seafood) from Miami, occasionally from the Dominican Republic, and therefore not cheap. Seafood, lobster, conch with peas ’n’ rice is standard island fare. Many restaurants charge a 10% gratuity and/or 9% government tax. Restaurants owned and operated by belongers do not have to charge tax because they serve the local market. Some do not charge for service. Check your bill carefully and tip, or not, accordingly.
Dellis Cay is uninhabited but frequently visited for its shells.
A popular excursion is to be dropped off there for the day for shelling by a local charter boat out of Leeward Marina, no facilities.
