St Croix Leap (Life and Environmental Arts Project, PO Box 245, Frederiksted, T7720421), on Route 76, the Paved Rain Forest Rd, is a non-profit woodworking centre, from which the artefacts may be bought direct. They take orders for custom made work and will ship finished work, anything from totem poles to salad servers in a variety of woods. Many Hands, Pan Am Pavilion, sells only arts and crafts from the Virgin Islands.
For special jewellery go to Sonya’s, in Christiansted, and see her hand-wrought gold and silver things. The Natural Jewel, King St, for pearl and larimar. St Croix Landmarks, museum store, teak, antique furniture, works by island artists, books and cards. The market in Christiansted is on Company Street, and has been on the site since 1735. The Newstand on Company St has US papers, magazines, other reading matter. Quin House on Company St has galleries, Caribbean maps and prints, museum replica jewellery, mahogany furniture. For groceries, K-Mart, Cost U Less at Sunshine Mall and Extras, and several Pueblo stores on the bus route. Gallows Bay has Gallows Bay Market (small, upscale, also US papers), PO, bank, bookstore, hardware store, marine store (another one at St Croix Marine). Laundry at Jonah’s drop off at St Croix Marine.
