Tour Companies & Travel Agents St Thomas

There are group tours by surrey, bus or taxi. Island tours in an open bus cost US$12 per person, many leave from Main Street at about 1200; complete tours only are sold. Helicopter: To tour the islands by air, contact Air Center Helicopters, T7757335; or Seaborne Seaplane Adventures, T7774491. US$79 per person. St John: As well as the National Parks service in the text above, Thunderhawk Trail Guides, T7741112. Offer hikes through the national park. The St John newspaper, Tradewinds, is published bi-weekly, US$0.50. The funny, informative, free, St John Guidebook and map is available in shops and also at the ticket booth at the ferry dock.

Maps

The Government offers a free road map (available at Tourist Information Offices) but considerable optimism was used in showing road classifications, especially on the St John map. Some of the ‘paved highways’ are really bad, unpaved roads which require hard, four-wheel drive. Texaco issues a map of the US islands, as does Phillip A Schneider, Dept of Geography, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, price US$3.95.

Island Trader is published weekly, free, good source of events and activities. Also specialist pamphlets on honeymoons, diving etc.
